This article has been on my writing list for a long time. But for a long time, I didn't dare to write. The reason is very simple. I don't think my photography level can reach the point of criticizing others.

As time goes on, I realize that what I know is just a kind of superficial. When you start to pay attention to the history of photography, you will find that there is a flash of joy and a lot of people are familiar with it.

However, it is interesting that when I realized this, I began to put down my burden. I felt that I could share some experiences, some experiences about "learning photography". But before you start, if you click on this article with a "crash course" attitude, you can turn it off now. First of all, in terms of text, this is a long article with tens of thousands of words. If you want to read through it, it will take at least an hour.

<img class="content-image" src=" https://pic3.zhimg.com/v2-6b96827566661c16377f8e1ce7cb2cfa_ b.jpg" Secondly, there is no shortcut to photography, and from my experience, all of your shortcuts will be made up by "doubling" in the future. Therefore, before I start, I have to tell you that with your continuous understanding of photography, you will realize more and more: "how much people are in front of time." Small, it seems that his life can not reach the highest meaning of photography. 」

(originally, I interspersed some of my own works in this article, but I also know that my work is still shallow and can not give you guidance. This article will also give some examples of my favorite photographers, so I will take this opportunity to show some wonderful works that I think can serve as a guide for you.)

 a piece of white paper

If you're a piece of white paper, the white paper here says, "there's no concept of photography at all.". Now that you read this article, I think it's a good thing for you.

It's not that I boast, but this article will involve a lot of detours and misunderstandings. If you can read it carefully, it can be avoided in the future.

More importantly, I will mention some learning methods, but they all have one common feature. They are systematic and non fragmented. If you start from scratch, you avoid a lot of self righteousness.

but in this part, I would like to discuss "information" and "knowledge". You may have some doubts, this is not a photography article, why began to discuss abstract concepts. Yes, this is indeed an article about learning photography, but learning this matter is common. The process of learning photography is essentially the same as learning any subject or art. Therefore, at the beginning, we should return to the essence of learning.

Today's Internet plays an important role in flattening "knowledge". In the past, we learned knowledge is vertical, need fixed teacher and fixed place. But the Internet is rich and diverse. This means that the content carried on the Internet not only contains knowledge, but also contains a lot of information. And a very serious problem is:

"Many beginners can't even distinguish between information and knowledge. 」

For example, many content sources often share some "Photography Tips", such as "learn these composition principles, you are the master" (without any pertinence, write casually, don't take the right place).

These contents seem to be very dry goods, and because many people see unfamiliar terms for the first time, they will feel that they have learned a lot of "knowledge" after reading them. But in my opinion, these contents are not knowledge, but information.

(photographer David dubnitskiy's works are very interesting, but they can't be displayed here, so you can go to the website by yourself)
because I think knowledge has a very important premise, which is "enough system". This is why we have to spend many years learning mathematics, Chinese and English. On the other hand, if you don't have any experience of learning English, I'll tell you that apple is apple, which is just information, not knowledge, for you. Therefore, back to the articles of photography, just intercepted a few one-sided photography knowledge system, can not be called knowledge, only some information about photography.

Now, let's make a clear question: is such information better than nothing? At this point, we have to discuss it in two ways. If you are only in an understanding or "practical" point of view, then the information is one-sided but has a certain role. It's like you need a manual to assemble a cabinet. These articles are the function of instructions. However, if your goal is to "learn or delve into" a skill, then the information is not only not necessarily positive, but also negative.

Take composition as an example. The three-part method, the middle method and the symmetry method sound reasonable. However, if you don't understand the principle behind them, you will only follow the script and make your photography very rigid.

One year when I was collecting wind in Huangshan, I met a "photographer" stressing to another that it must be placed on the bisector line, otherwise it would not be a masterpiece. This scene really made me laugh and cry.

the more serious problem is that the information of the fragments can make you confused. For example, if you simply remember the mathematical relationship between the exposure triangles, you can't even figure out why the photos taken by your camera are blurred.

This is just like memorizing mathematical rules by rote, and there is no way to prove them. The more fragmented knowledge you acquire, the more reasons for doubt. So, if you are "a piece of white paper", then obviously you can avoid such problems.

But after xiaoxixi, you should know clearly: "if you really want to learn photography, you should learn it systematically as knowledge, for example, after reading a book. 」

After reading a book, it sounds very simple, but in the context of the Internet camera, the most irritating thing is "too long not to see the party.".

In other words, people have even regarded "refusing to read for a long time as a kind of self coercion". Even, not surprisingly, there are similar comments in this article. But I still want to emphasize that reading is the most important learning method for photography.

here, I only recommend two books that systematically learn photography knowledge: a photography book, Zhao Jia, my own introductory book. Reading this one can basically get the vast majority of photography knowledge.

Photography textbook of New York Institute of photography is one of the classics. However, you should pay attention to the fact that this book is not suitable for reading as soon as it comes up. It needs certain photographic experience to be used as an answer book. Of course, if you say you really can't read books, you want to learn in a passive way like video. There are also some good system video courses on the Internet. Here I recommend two teachers

 (photographer Chen Nan's iPhone photography)
first of all, Chen Nan and sister Nan (Dora C dream's pocket, social network ID). I was attracted by Nanjie's photography style at first, and then signed up for her online course, which was five years ago. What I want to say is that the courses of online hot photographers are really uneven, and there is a very important question: "if you shoot well, you don't have to speak well. 」

Of course, one thing is certain: "if you don't shoot well, it's useless to speak well. 」

So here, just recommend Nan Jie's course. Because I've been to Nanjie's class, I've never been sloppy, and since Nanjie has oil painting skills, she definitely has her own ideas about color style. Some of her fairy tale style Japanese photos were once popular on the Internet. If it is the later stage, I only recommend one. This is Mr. Li Tao's "the road to master in the later stage of digital photography", which can be seen on the teacher's website.

Of course, it doesn't matter if it's not a white paper. As long as "lower your body position", be modest. Don't be complacent because you must know something. If you study from the system structure modestly, you will have a new understanding.

 about equipment

First of all, it's the happiest time to learn photography, because you look around, there are all kinds of cameras everywhere, so you can shoot even if you say you have no budget for photography. Because at the beginning of photography, expensive equipment made it a "novelty" that only aristocrats could afford to play with.

 (Michael Kenna photography)
but today, cameras are available to everyone. Not to mention the common mobile phone camera, even the chat camera on the laptop can be a creative tool, which sounds incredible, right.

However, during the outbreak, portrait photographers from Italy used chat cameras to shoot a series of "shot on FaceTime". Here are some of the works.
